Occupational & Environmental Medicine

Occupational and environmental medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the
prevention and management of conditions caused by work and the environment, and with
conditions that may affect a person's capacity to work.
Dr Beer works with employers, insurers and workers across Tasmania to promote the
health benefits of good work and the principles of proactive prevention. She is a Fellow of
the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners with a rural generalist background,
and an Advanced Trainee in Occupational & Environmental Medicine with the Royal
Australasian College of Physicians. Her experience spans onsite occupational health in heavy industry, fitness for work assessment, and independent medicolegal examination
and reporting.

Pre-employment medical
Role-matched assessment against inherent job requirements and industry standards, with a clear
fitness recommendation reported to the nominated contact.

Periodic & biannual medical
Scheduled health surveillance for existing workers, including statutory monitoring where required.

Fitness for work assessment
Assessment of capacity for a role following illness, injury or concern, with practical
recommendations on duties, restrictions and review.

Independent medical examination (IME)
Impartial independent examinations for insurers, lawyers and employers, including workers
compensation matters.

Audiometry, spirometry and drug & alcohol screening can be arranged where the role
requires it. Telehealth review appointments are available for regional Tasmania where
clinically appropriate.
